How you can create psychological safety in the workplace

Here are some things you can do to foster a sense of inclusiveness among colleagues. You don't even have to be in a high position in the hierarchy; it's enough to want to provide yourself and others with a pleasant working atmosphere. For example, it would be a good idea to admit your mistakes and discuss them with your colleagues. Nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes at work sometimes; it's nothing malicious. Then, it is not difficult to praise someone's work or success. Why is this difficult for everyone? Giving praise to others will certainly contribute to positivity in the work environment.

 



Meetings are a great opportunity for discussion and conversation, so they can also be a place where you share a short personal story. Your actions will show others that they can do the same. This way, you will get to know your colleagues better, and a close and honest work environment will be created. Speaking of meetings, it would be a good idea not to use the phone but to actively listen and engage in discussion if necessary on an issue. If a colleague is usually quiet in meetings, try to encourage him to express a position or opinion and help him actively participate in the meeting. Everyone will simply feel more comfortable at the meeting. However, the meeting should not become chaotic, and the conversations should be on topic.

 

Also, every individual is important to the team, so why not highlight that? Everyone makes a contribution, and that should be appreciated. In addition to making the atmosphere of the meeting more pleasant, you will also send the message that everyone's contribution is valued and respected. As it means to you, it means to others. Then try to cultivate an environment of positive response; certain risks must be taken in the course of operations, and this should be accepted. Only in this way, with a positive atmosphere and taking risks, can new ideas be generated. Sometimes even the failure of an individual needs to be supported to give them a sense of belonging so they will keep trying.

 

All employees - leaders, managers, and employees - have the opportunity to create a sense of belonging and psychological security at work. Not only will all employees feel respected, valued, and treated fairly, but it will also benefit the business. The team must function as a team. We dedicate a large part of our lives to work and spend most of our time at work, so why not provide ourselves with a pleasant atmosphere?
